PS-200 - Versatile dual-mono power supply

 

 

Why we developed the PS-200:

 

Previously our dual-mono mods were very labor intensive. We sold these in a kit form, but for the first time builder it was complex and very time consuming to install. It all fit really tightly into the amps too - no room for errors. Now you can easily install it yourself and save on labor and freight charges. With the PS-200 there is plenty of room after installation. Our large TP-200 toroidal transformer is no longer a challenge to locate and install with the dual-mono configuration for Hafler 200 series amps. The PS-200 will allow you to improve neatness of installation, shorten current paths due to "inverted" capacitors which is good, improve sound quality and lower the price for high-performance dual-mono sound. Life is good!

 

 

 

PS-200 Board Features:

 

• High quality FR-4 grade glass epoxy circuit board material is extra thick(0.090") for low microphonics, durability and toughness.
• Extra heavy copper foils with identical traces on top and bottom, doubling current capacity, reducing impedance
• Extra B+ and B- output power eyelets which accept 14ga wiring
• "Copper pour" shielding on "top side" of the board
• Provision for LED connection which some applications require, bleeder resistors for safety
• Designed for standard four-pin snap-in caps(35mm or 40mm) AND exotic four-pole designs

 

Musical Concepts latest custom-made LC-200 caps are used for STD PS-200 model. They are 27,000uF/80V. They are not just a standard cap with our name printed on them. These are custom-built with special attention to low ESR. PS-200 standard model is a 108,000uF dual-mono power supply. Powerful, fast and clear. 

 

PS-200 layout is also for four-pole Jensen(35mm) or DNM(40mm) four-pole capacitors - both have fool-proof one way installation, 6800uF/100V to 15,000uF/63V. Jensen caps are used exclusively for the PS-200J model. 

Jensen is a Danish company specializing in high reliability industrial electronic parts and an impressive line of audiophile quality capacitors and inductors. 

 

The PS-200 bare board is made in Los Angeles, CA by Americans. The LC-200 capacitors, though they are labeled NIPPON CHEMI-CON, are made in the Lansing, North Carolina UNITED CHEMI-CON factory also by Americans. It was formerly the famous Sprague facility. 

IXYS is a Silicon Valley company with worldwide operations. The diodes we use are made, at least at the time of this writing, in Lampertheim, Germany.  

 

 

 

What you can do with the PS-200:

 

Turn your Hafler DH-200, DH-220, DH-500 or XL-280/600 into a more musically satisfying product with improved imaging, crispness and dynamics. We have installed PS-200 boards into other amplifiers too. A number of Adcom owners have added PS-200 boards. See some more examples here. 

 

• Easily configure and quickly install a dual-mono power supply with standard, but new custom developed, four-pin snap-in version of our LC-200 capacitors
• Get exotic and use the Jensen four-pole, high-performance caps as shown below. Now there is no confusion in how to install four-pole caps. Wow these things sound spooky natural!
• Easily install twin, exotic IXYS HyperFred version bridge rectifier. These superb bridge rectifiers, each rated for 22A/600V are standard for both versions. See them in the pictures, the black flat squares about the size of half a book of matches 
• If budget is tight you can "stuff" half the board now and finish it up later. There are extra connection eyelets so you can connect both channels to one pair of caps.
• The experienced builder can use this small board as a power supply upgrade for many solid-state amplifiers. You could even use it for a tubed preamp or amp with B+/ heater supply on one board
